While all racial and ethnic groups in the United States experienced an increase in obesity rates in the last three decades, a social inequity exists with communities of color having experienced the highest and most rapid increases. Chronic disease conditions are directly associated with poor nutrition and inactivity. Among many communities of color and low-income communities these rates of chronic disease prevalence are higher than national averages and are increasing at accelerated rates.
Hence, there is an increasing need for health promotion programs which address cultural specificity within the context of CaliforniaĚs diverse society. CANFit programming addresses this need.
