DCConsultSM, the new online chiropractic and alternative health care information resource, has been launched by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) as the first iteration of its new Evidence-Based Resource Center announced last year. The web site, available by subscription, is the professionÌs newest clinician/patient/research information resource, and is cutting edge in its technology and its inclusivity of chiropractic and alternative health care information. Charter subscriptions to DCConsultSM, at a much-reduced rate, are available until August 31, 2008, at which time the rate will substantially increase to better cover the expense of developing and maintaining the site. For more information and to subscribe, visit www.dcconsult.com.

ÏDCConsult has been developed as a complete chiropractic and alternative health care information resource Ò a web site with global access to information,Ó Charles R. Herring, DC, FCER President, said. ÏPractitioners and others worldwide can use the site to search for scientific evidence relevant to the patientÌs condition and treatment, with links to databases with related information. DCConsult was developed to serve as a primary searchable resource in the gathering of the most current research and customizable patient treatment information, and to enhance the ability to use evidence in practice for the betterment of the patient. A bonus is that FCER is offering this resource to the profession at reasonable and affordable rates,Ó he added.

The development of DCConsultSM has been a collaboration among FCER Board of Trustees and staff including Dr. Herring and Reed B. Phillips, DC, PhD, FCER Vice President and Research Committee Chairperson; Fabrizio Mancini, DC, Parker College of Chiropractic President; and Ron Rupert, DC, Parker College of Chiropractic Dean of Research, as well as the many others supportive of FCERÌs new research and educational initiatives. Many individuals and chiropractic organizations have donated time, effort and financially to the development of DCConsultSM.

ÏAlthough this is a new service offered by FCER, the core of this web site has been under development by Dr. Rupert for many years. In addition, Dr. Mancini hired staff at Parker college to specifically develop the evidence-based literature reviews included on the site. The FCER trustees are pleased to be able to work with Dr. Rupert and Dr. Mancini to make this resource a reality for the chiropractic profession,Ó Dr. Herring said.

This global access to evidence-based research and best practices data will benefit chiropractic patients, the research community investigating conditions and non-invasive therapies, practitioners of chiropractic and manual therapy, colleges and faculty, associations, agencies, regulatory bodies and others in the profession.

Subscribers can log on each day and use the site to search on the Manual, Alternative and Natural Therapy Index System (MANTISÙ) and Medline databases for scientific evidence relevant to a patientÌs condition and treatment, for example.

ÏCurrently, DCConsult is a gateway, repository and sharing medium for chiropractic and alternative health care research and data,Ó Dr. Phillips said. ÏDCConsult is impressively complete in the type and amount of relevant chiropractic information needed by the day-to-day practitioner, plus itÌs very easy to navigate. Eventually, as the site is further developed, it will continue to grow to be inclusive of alternative health care, nutrition, wellness and more,Ó he added.

Until August 31, 2008, the Individual Charter Subscription Rate for FCER members is $97 annually; for non-members the rate is $297 annually, which includes an FCER Benefactor Membership and its benefits. FCER PresidentÌs Council Members receive a complimentary subscription. Charter Subscribers lock in the rate for three years.

FCER is the chiropractic professionÌs oldest not-for-profit foundation, serving the profession since 1944. Based in Norwalk, Iowa, FCER has as its mission to ÏTranslate Research into PracticeÓ by granting funds for research and producing practitioner and patient educational materials including teleconferences, CDs, books and pamphlets. FCER developed the DCConsultSM web site as part of its Evidence-Based Resource Center, an online source for clinical and patient education information.
