Managing Neck Conditions Conference - Nov. 15 - 16, 2007 - Saskatchewan
The Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain and its Associated Disorders (NPTF) was formed in 2001 under the umbrella of the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 . The mandate of the task force was to make recommendations for clinical practice guidelines for the management of neck pain and its associated disorders .

Goal of the Neck Pain Task Force is the empowerment of people with neck pain . Specific goals include:

To present a picture of the current impact of neck pain and its associated disorders on society
To present to the public and the health care professions a comprehensive picture of the current benefits, risks and costs of different treatment approaches to the management of neck pain and associated disorders
To provide people with neck pain with the information available to understand the risk and prognosis of neck pain
To present a tool that patients with neck pain can use to evaluate their options and guide their choice of treatment given their personal biases and preferences
The research findings of the task force will be published as a supplement to the journal Spine in the fall of 2007. There will be four evidence tables: epidemiology, diagnosis, interventions, and course/prognosis. Using the evidence tables, conclusions will be drawn about the risk and benefits of the various options for managing neck conditions . The document will be over 200 pages in length and the web based version over 400 pages of tables and supporting documents.

The purpose of the Managing Neck Conditions Conference is to provide a venue to publicize the findings of the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain and its Associated Disorders . The conference is aimed at clinicians (physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, psychologists and nurses) who manage patients with this very common condition. As well, the conference is aimed at administrators of funding agencies who are in a position to affect funding decisions based on the evidence.

The timing of the conference is to coincide with the publication of the findings of the Task Force as a special supplement to the journal Spine. This is a unique opportunity to hear about the findings of the extensive task force report. All but one (she has another speaking commitment) of the members of the scientific secretariat who produced this document are speaking at the conference.
