Vadodara, January 21 The apex body of the district cooperative milk producers' unions in the state and Amul brand owners Û Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) on Monday launched high calcium milk, Amul CALCI+.
The product, which stays fresh for 120 days at room temperature, is targeted at pregnant women, growing children, young adults and those who want to prevent chances of osteoporosis as it will help in meeting their daily calcium requirement.
GCMMF officials said the new product is aimed at strengthening its special sterilization process called Ultra Heat Treated (UHT) milk. They said it contains 100 per cent natural milk calcium and has no preservative.
According to a top GCMMF official, the one litre aseptically packed tetrapack Amul CALCI+, priced at Rs 35, is a value for money product and is now available at all Amul Preferred Outlets, leading super markets and major A-class outlets across India.
As per nutrition experts, around 400-600 mg in general and 1,000 mg calcium intake are recommend during pregnancy and breast-feeding on daily basis. GCMMF claim that two glasses of CALCI+ meets the daily requirement of calcium intake and more importantly it has been enriched with calcium derived from natural milk source, which gets absorbed easily in the body.
Calcium deficiency leads to many health problems, particularly osteoporosis during old age, hypertension, bone deformation, nerve sensitivity, leg cramps, and this product is an ideal source of natural calcium and aids in maintaining optimal bone health, said GCMMF officials.
They added that CALCI+ is the easiest way to meet the increased calcium requirements of pregnant and lactating women.
