Mainstream medicine may not provide perfect answers for many health problems, so a lot of people are turning to nature by incorporating alternative medicine in their health treatment plan. Banalucka Tiramonkon, the owner of D Spine Chiropractic, is one example.

Banalucka Tiramonkon

She told mylife that she suffered from allergies and migraine headaches for many years. Worse still, at 30 years of age, she was diagnosed with uterus cancer. After taking drugs for a long time, she realised that it didn't provide a cure for the disease; it merely kept the symptoms and pain under control.

"Conventional medicine didn't work for me, so I switched to natural healing methods by integrating chiropractic care, a healthy diet and meditation. In this way, it helps me achieve balance and well being," Ms Banalucka said.

Chiropractic care is one of the most popular natural healing approaches that has been widely accepted among physicians these days.

"This phenomenon has inspired me to get to know more about chiropractic. So I decided to pursue my study of chiropractic care in America," she said.

"After graduation, I intend to share my experience with others and increase awareness and understanding of this method of natural healing," she added.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care approach that treats diseases by manipulating the spinal column. The spinal column helps protect the spinal cord and nerves, which send messages to the brain and the rest of the body. When the spine is compressed, it can be crooked and bent. Improper spinal alignment (subluxation) can interfere with vital signals that may compromise organ and tissue function.

Chiropractors believe that interference with the nerve supply is the root cause of diseases. Adjusting the joints can help wake up cells in the body and thus help improve mind and body communication.

"The objective of chiropractic is to locate or correct a traffic jam in your nerves. It's done naturally, with no need for blood tests or injections," explained Dr Tom Smith, a chiropractor who has more than 30 years of experience with joint adjustment.

Chiropractors locate the part of the spinal column that is out of place and move or realign the vertebrae. They also relieve affected nerves by applying pressure with their hands. An activator is also used as a tool to deliver precise adjustments to the spine.
