Have you ever seen Curse of the Jade Scorpion, where Woody Allen’s character gets stuck in a trance from a stage hypnotist and is convinced to steal during the wee hours of the morning? Have you ever witnessed a comic hypnotist who makes his volunteers do crazy things that they later cannot remember?

While entertaining, it’s unfortunate that these images of hypnotism have become a frame of reference for so many. Hypnosis is a very real tool for overcoming emotional blocks and accessing deeper healing. Sanctioned by the American Medical Association, hypnosis requires a certification to be used in a healing modality.

Last week I had the opportunity to experience the real deal myself with Certified Hypnotist, Robert Roffman from the Healing Warrior (or “Bob’s World” as he playfully calls it). I did not ‘go under’ to a trance so deep that I blacked out, nor did I do anything out of my control. Rather, I was invited into a relaxed state of mind with an image of a tropical location and a very comfy hammock. Once I was fully relaxed, Bob offered empowering directives to keep in my subconscious in reference to the topic I was requesting help with. My homework is to recall this island scene in order to activate the directives he’d given me.

So, how might this help someone dealing with emotional or physical pain? Individuals frequently have grown to believe that they don’t have a choice and must live with their pain. Using hypnosis can reinforce a person’s original belief that healing is possible, opening themselves up for deeper interaction with their provider.

Bob specializes in both hypnosis and massage. He works with his clients through hypnosis to target emotional levels, breaking negative habits and thought processes. He works with them to remove the “I can’t” statements and create more confident, aware choices. Bob says, ‘I never practice under my own assumptions. My goal is always to assist my client to achieve their highest potential when faced with challenging issues.’

From there, he is able to work deeper with massage for therapeutic purposes. “Bob’s world” is a very special place that holds the purest intentions for every client. Expect to be truly heard with your concerns, to be understood and even to share a laugh as you settle into a truly holistic approach to healing.

As if that wasn’t enough, Bob is moving into the state-of-the-art Lakeside Sports, Chiropractic Center & Motorsports Rehabilitation Center this summer. Dr. Jennifer Lidstrom had personal success with Bob through hypnosis and massage and now wants to utilize his skills with her high-profile patients, including Nascar teams. Suddenly hypnosis isn’t just for amusement anymore!
